Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson

Hen is an artist who has settled into suburban life with her husband in an attempt to slow down and live a quiet life. All of that changes when they go to dinner at the home of their new neighbors and Hen spots an item in one of the rooms that ties to an unsolved murder from her old neighborhood.

There is one major problem that is stopping Hen from bringing the truth to light about her neighbor. Hen had a mental breakdown in college and she has a police record for accusing a schoolmate of stalking her and murdering her own roommate.

When Matthew, her neighbor, realizes that Hen cannot reveal his secrets, he finds himself drawn to her inexplicably. The one person who can know the truth about him, and do nothing about it…Even her own husband doesn’t believe her speculations.

The tangled web is woven between them, as their marriages are challenged by lies upon lies and secrets upon secrets.

What makes a person a true murderer? Is it still murder if you believe you are enforcing vigilante justice? What does one do when someone close to them is dangerous and no one believes you. Where do you draw the lines between sanity and insanity, and truth and perception?

Before She Knew Him is a dark, twisted mystery novel that you won’t be able to put down until it’s last page. If you need distraction and you like thrillers, definitely pick it up as your next read.
